I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!  2017 was a great year and I hope 2018 is as well!!! Please stay healthy and safe over the winter break!!

Conferences are coming up at the end of Jan. Please return your conference request as soon as possible so I can get you in the time slot you prefer. I am not able to do the Jan. 30th so I have scheduled the 29th instead. Please make note of that chnage.

We have finished math Topic 8 and will begin Topic 9~Line, Angles, Shapes. Science will continue with renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Social Studies will continue with the study of Minnesota. Reading Skills will go over Main Idea, Details, and Sequencing.

Again, have a great break!!!

     Ok, the weather is starting to get chilly!! Please make sure your child has warm clothes to wear outside. We go out for recess everyday unless there is a below 0 windchill!! 

     I am going to try a new form of communication with my classroom families. It is called Seesaw. I have the class set up and ready to go. Watch for information to come home as to how you will sign up. This is a free phone app and you can access through your computer as well. I can send homework, reminders, celebrations, etc. to you via phone and/or computer!! I hope you will use this new platform as a way to stay current with school happenings. Plus it is safe and private for only my class to see!!!!

     This week in Math we will continue with Topic 8 ~ Division. The students are catching on to this strategy pretty well! Is it perfect yet? Not quite, but I am impressed with how quickly they are catching on!! Social Studies will continue with Landforms and Science will continue with Renewable Resources. Spelling will be a redo for list 10. Another tough week in spelling for us!

     I would still recommend sending in an extra set of clothes, maybe after break? We will do a locker clean out later this week or sometime before winter break. Look for a pile of things to come home :)

Second trimester is underway!! We had a great first trimester, I hope we can continue with the awesomeness again!! Spelling this week will focus on the Schwa + r Spelled er, ir, and ur in First Syllable. Math will continue with Topic 8 Division. We are showing the students another way to divide called "The Forgiving Method". If you would like to see how it works, you can you tube "forgiving method" and watch the videos. We will work on this for some time!. Science will be going over Natural Resources and Social Studies will go over Rivers.  We are going to Santa's Secret Shop on Dec. 8th. Shopping on Dec. 11th.

With the cool weather, I would recommend sending in warm jackets, hats, and mittens. Please talk to your child about wearing these when going out for recess, a lot of students feel like they will be "ok" without jackets. Not so much!!! . We will do a locker clean out/check before break. Look for a pile of things to come home in the next couple of weeks:)

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!!! This week ends our first tirmester of school. Report cards will be going home next week in the Wed. envelope.

Santa's Secret Shop...preview Dec. 8, shopping Dec. 11th!!!. I will take the class into the shop and they can make a wish list of items they would like to buy for their family. Our shopping day is in a couple weeks. If you need assistnace please let me or Mr. Sawatzke know and we can help with the cost.

Spelling this week will focus on r-Influenced o in accented syllables . Please be sure to practice these words each night at home as we only ractice a couple times during the week for Word Study. Math will review and wrap up Topic 7. Topic 8 will be next working on...Dividing by 1 digit divisors.

I wanted let you know how Thankful I am for these students and your support. These kids really do work hard and so well together! It is a lot of fun to see them continue to learn and grow from one another!! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family!!

Club's Choice will begin next week. This is a fundraiser for our school. Please only ask friends and family to order! This will need to be returned after Thanksgiving break. Keep reading your Battle of the Books books. This challenge will take place early February. I have a couple groups just about through all the books...great team work!! Make sure you go back and do some review to keep the stories fresh in your mind:) Math will begin Topic 7, yes I am skipping Topic 6 for now. We will learn how to multiply two digit numbers. I will also have the math videos set up online for you to view if you like. Santa's Secret Shop...preview Dec. 8, shopping Dec. 11th!!!

October was a tough month for my class and homework. I totally understand families are busy these days!!! I get it, but please know, the homework being sent home is usually something they can do on their own. I know Science can take a few days to complete, but a week should be plenty of time to get the projects done. If you see that homework will not get completed, let me know, and we can work on it here. I do not like giving FYI's! Lets try to work together and see if November can be a no FYI month. 

No spelling this week!! Math test on Topic 5, introducing Topic 6 only, beginning Topic 7 Multiplying 2 digits.

We are still short cardboard pieces ~ 12x18. If you have extra, please send it in :)

I hope you were able to enjoy the long weekend!! It appears the weather is a little confused these days, please make sure your child has the appropriate items for outside recess. It might be a good idea to bring in an extra set of clothes in case they do get wet outside. Heads up for next week...Nov. 14 is Late Start

Well, it finally happened~SNOW! At least we aren't super cold outside yet!! Now is a good time to send in warm, outside gear!! I hope the kids had fun at the Halloween Carnival on Saturday!! Please be safe if you go out Halloween night!!! Any extra candy can be donated to the school. We are collecting for our Troops overseas. Math will test Topic 4 and go into Topic 5~Multiplying 1 digit numbers. Just a heads up...No school Next Monday, teacher workshop day.

Thank you for coming in and visiting with me concerning your child.  I am so proud of them all!!!  We are off to a great start and hope it continues throughout the year. We are back to a regular schedule this week. Reading skills will be working on Determine Important Information, Ask Questions, also Main Idea and Details. Math will begin Topic 4 Understanding Division. On October 25th,  we are celebrating UNITY Day... Unity Day is a day when we all unite against bullying. Please wear orange!

For the Fall Celebration...you are more than welcome to bring treats. Please be sure to have enough for everyone in the class (23).  I hope you had a chance to enjoy some time with family over the long weekend!!
