Families,
Ok, the weather is starting to make me nervous!! Very strange to have a green December!! Anyway, this week is going to be a regular schedule. Math will start Topic 7~ Division. Social Studies will continue with Native Americans and Science will continue with Rocks (properties) and Minerals. Spelling will focus on the rule Syllable Juncture in VCV and VVCV Patterns. Similar to the last couple weeks.
I would still recommend sending in an extra set of clothes. We will do a locker clean out this week or sometime before winter break. Look for a pile of things to come home :)
Have a great week!!

Families,
Second trimester is underway!! We had a great first trimester, I hope we can continue with the awesomeness again!! Spelling this week will focus on the Syllable Juncture in VCV and VCCV Patterns...open and closed syllable patterns. Math will finish with Topic 6. Test will be later this week. Social Studies will continue with Native Americans and Science will continue with Rocks (properties) and Minerals. We are going to Santa's Secret Shop on Monday at 9:30 am. If you missed out on Monday, the shop is open until Wednesday. I can send your child sometime during the day to shop. Just so you know, the later it gets, the less there is to pick from...
With the cool weather and snow I would recommend sending in an extra set of clothes. Even though jackets and snowpants say water proof, the kids can still get wet. It is no fun learning in wet clothes. We will do a locker clean out brfore winter break. Look for a pile of things to come home :)
Have a great week!!

Wednesday is Veteran's Day, please wear Red, White & Blue. Math will continue with Topic 5~multiplication (2's and 5's). Daily 5 is working on highlighting important pieces of information for comprehension. Club's Choice will begin this week. This is a fundraiser for our school. Please only ask friends and family to order! This will need to be returned after Thanksgiving break. Keep reading your Battle of the Books books. This challenge will take place in January. I will be testing the class on their adding and subtracting math facts. I hope to have everyone fluent by the end of the first trimester (Dec. 4) so we can begin working on multiplication facts. Again, our goal is multiply 0 to 9. I hope you had a great weekend and to those hunters...I hope you had some luck and everyone stayed safe!!

Pizza Hut Book It

Maple Lake Elementary is particpating in the Pizza Hut Book It Program again this year.

The only way to get better at reading is to do it. The Pizza Hut® BOOK IT!® Program motivates children to read more by rewarding them for their reading accomplishments. It can be used to enhance programs that teach children how to read, support comprehension and intervention programs, and encourage parents to spend more time reading with their children at home.

These certificates will be honored at the Monticello movie theater for 1 free movie ticket. Please be sure to use the certificate before it expires, which is 30 days from the date posted on the certificate.

I will hand these out in the classroom to those students that have their book log signed each night in reading and math.

We will put costumes on around 2:05 and the celebration will begin as soon as every one is ready. Please make sure the costume is school friendly. Parents that would like to come in and participate can check in at the office...be sure to have the volunteer training if you have not done so yet. We will play a variety of games and have treats. I would like to start cleaning up by 2:45 so we have time to change and get backpacks ready. Have a safe Halloween weekend!! Bring in any extra candy please!!!
