Final grades will be turned in by the end of the week. You will get a paper copy of the report card in next weeks Wednesday envelope. Please keep the report card, sign the envelope, and return it to school. I will use that again for your child's Trimester 2 report card. Let me know if you have any questions. Our class will be working on a project next week and would like an old sock with some design. It is going to be cut up!!! Please bring it to school by this Friday, thank you! This week we will learn about figurative language and start a Mona Lisa project.. Have a wonderful week!!

I would like to start with how THANKFUL I am for these students! What a bright, well behaved group of kids!! Thank you for sharing them with me!! This week we are going to finish our Amazing Escape (key ideas and details). Math will focus on fractions, and Soc. St. will continue with the fur trade/time line of events. The dance on Wed. is at the Maple Lake Legion Club. Please pick up your child on or before 5:00 pm.  Thank you and I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Thank you for making arrangements to get your meat orders picked up and delivered. We will let you know what your childs profit is as soon as we can. We get a full week of academics!! In E.L.A. our focus will be on grammar; verbs, pronouns, and sentence variety. Math continues with common factors and Soc. St. will begin the fur trade. We had a guest speaker, Cory Greenwood, come in on Wednesday and give a great talk on self worth. I have an attachment on this newsletter for you to open up, this is a poster he shared. Rachel's Challenge is collecting Halloween candy for troops again this year. If you have any candy leftover send it to school this week and we will ship it off to the soliders. Reminder, meat orders will need to be picked up Oct. 28 from 9-5.  This week in Lang. Arts, we are learning about literary analysis and story arc. We finished our first writing essay. They all did a nice job for their first assignment! We have no school this Friday (teacher prof. dev. day) and next Friday (grading period). First quarter comes to an end Nov. 6 already!! Mrs. Orazem will be returning this week as well and we are excited!! We will sure miss Mr. Dockendorf and hope he comes in again some time. Have a great week and enjoy the long weekend!!

Conferences this week, Oct. 13-14 from 4-7 and Oct. 15 from 8-3. The book fair will be open during this time. Purchases on Oct. 15 will need to be done by noon as the book fair will be taken down at that time. Continue to wear orange on Wednesdays please!! I hope everyone had a chance to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this last weekend. Typical MN times, we need to dress in layers. Be sure your child has warm clothes in their locker just in case the AC is on full blast or it cools off outside. It is hard to work when we are all freezing. Sounds like the first math test went well for the class!! I am very proud of them all. For L.A. we are going to keep plugging away on our personal narrative and begin working on our book reports. The work will be done in class. You are welcome to take them home when we meet for conferences. Conferences are next week Mon.-Wed. The elementary school is not in session next Wed., but the high school IS. We also have our book fair going on at that time. Great way to get some gifts/stocking stuffers. I hope you and your student are getting back into the swing of things by now. A couple of things I would like to remind you of. We have a binder that holds your childs student planner. Each 6th grade teacher will have the students fill out their planner during each class. This is a great communication tool. You will see what your child is working on and what is coming up. If your child has not been bringing their binder home, please ask them to start. This will train them to be more independent and accountible for school work and expectations. Also, we are 6th graders now. There is a level of higher expectations this year. We understand they are still kids and want them to stay that way, but they also know what is right/wrong and we want school to be fun, at the same time, being role models for the lower grades. This is an amazing group of kids and I/we would love for all of them to have the best year!! Be on the look out for a shoe box. Your child needs one for their book report coming up soon. Last thing, wear orange every Wednesday to show KINDNESS. Have a great week!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend! Our first vocabulary quiz went pretty good. If your child is not happy with their score, they are welcome to take a redo on Monday. Thursday comprehension redo's are due Monday as well. This week we continue with character analysis in L.A. Math continues with decimals and Soc. St. is covering MN facts. Teachers will be setting up conference times soon. If you have not returned your sheet, let me know if you prefer Oct. 13 (4-7pm), 14 (4-7pm) or 15 (8am-3pm). Watch for your fall conference slip to go home in the Wed. envelope. With outside temps and inside temps all over the place, you may want to send in extra clothes to stay warm in the classroom.
