MCA testing for fourth grade is now complete! Thank you for making this a priority , but not a stressful time! I hope your child feels they did their best! I was glad to see they did not rush trying to finish early! As I mentioned before, results will be shared with you in the fall.

Rotations continue....Science will wrap up Earth, Soc.St is testing MN symbols, and Reading Skills is reviewing all skills (pretty much until the end of the year now!) I sent home some information on getting your Volunteer training done. Please make sure you have done this or need to update your certificate. Also, I sent home a link for your child to make comic stories. This could be something fun to do over the summer on a rainy day?

So hard to believe it is going to be May at the end of the week!!!! This year has gone by way too fast!!!! Crazy as it seems, only 24 days left!!!!! I am not ready to be done with this group!!

Thank you for participating in the Pennies for Patients!!! We will find out this week how much the school collected and the winning grade level(s).

MCA math is this Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure your child is at school and has a good nights rest. If your child has been absent from any of the test dates, we will have a make up day for those students.

We have been looking at a new strategy for Reading Skills.....Lyrics2Learn. I have sent home your childs username and password. You can sign up for a free trial (30 days?). If you like it, there are some options for subscriptions. I like what I see so far!

Rotations are continuing this week. Science is going over the Earth's crust, Social Studies is covering MN symbols, and Reading Skills is going over Lyrics2Learn.

I have been told students are bringing gum to school. We only allow gum during MCA testing. Please keep the gum at home, its getting all over the playground and stuck on the lunch trays!

Well, the first round of testing is done! The kids worked hard and did their best. Test results will be sent home in the fall when teacher letters are mailed out.  I am proud of their effort!

This week will resume the regualr schedule. Math will review all topics, Reading Skills will cover Author's Purpose, Character, Setting, Prediction, and Theme. Science is covering the Earth's crust, Social Studies is covering States, Symbols, and Birthhood.

If you know that you will not have time to get school projects done, or other homework assignments,  please let me know. I will have your child stay in during recess and work on them. A lot of FYI's because of homework :(

I hope Spring will show up any day now!!!!  Have a great week!!!

We will not have spelling or reading comprehension this week. Our first round of testing will be Thursday (am) and Friday (am) for Reading. My class will be split between Mrs. Hertwig and Mr. Staloch. I will be going bewteen the two groups and taking anyone that finishes early back to my room. That way those testing will not be distracted.

We are serving breakfast each morning before the test. The menu is on the back of the testing schedule. This is free to the students!! Please be sure they get a good nights sleep!! 

Reading packs are due April 11 and Math packs are due April 24.

Wear Blue every Friday durning April for Austism Awareness Month!!!

If you need to pull your child from school early, please make sure you inform the office as well as the teacher. Thank you to those that put notes in the planner!!!!!!!

MCA Testing Schedule

2018

Students in grades 3-6 will be taking the MCA tests on the scheduled dates below:

Grade 3:         

Reading        April 9 & 11 (AM)

Math:          April 20 & 23 (AM)

                               

Grade 4:      

Reading        April 12-13 (AM)

               

        Math           April 24-25 (AM)

               

Grade 5:      

        Reading        April 16-17 (AM)

        Math           April 26-27 (AM)

               

        Science        May 2 (AM)

Grade 6:      

Reading        April 18-19 (AM)

                       

        Math           April 26-27 (AM)

               

Please mark these dates on your calendar and try to avoid scheduling any appointments or vacation days during this test window. Breakfast will be served at school for each group taking an AM test. More information about this will be sent home in early April. Here are some other tips to add to the success for your child:

       Be sure your child gets a good night’s sleep prior to a testing day.

       Encourage your child to do their very best and to answer all the questions. The test is not timed so they can go back to respond to questions if needed.

       Try to avoid undue stress about the testing.

       Keep a positive attitude about these tests!

Welcome back!!! I hope everyone had a nice break!! April (snow) showers bring May flowers!!! Please make sure your child has a change of clothes for their locker...the playground is wet!!! Puddles are still fun in 4th grade!!!  

This week in Math we are going to start working on Math Projects. I will go over this with the class during Math time. It can be as basic or complex as you like! Just be creative. These will be due April 13th. We will share a couple each day until everyone has had a chance to share their project.

MCA prep will continue. Our first test will be April 12 and 13...Reading. Please make sure your child is at school on time and has a good nights rest. I believe we will serve breakfast to the kids on test days. If that changes, I will let you know.

Reading and Math packs can be returned this week!!

Spelling this week will focus on prefixes, Math is a lot of review and the Math Project.

Wear Twins on Thursday for the home opener!!!!
