Happy New Year!!! I am anxious to see what 2019 brings us!!! I hope everyone had time to relax, spend time with family, and friends!!

Third grade students (Malwitz's class) will be taking the NWEA test Jan. 11th (math) and Jan. 15th (reading). This is to check their Reading and Math progress. I will share results at conferences.

We will continue with Topic 9 in Math~Patterns.  No spelling this week or Comprehension Reading sheet. Slowly getting back into the flow again. I will be reviewing classroom and school expectations this week as well. I am hoping we did not forget what they are.

I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!  2018 was a great year and I hope 2019 is as well!!! Please stay healthy and safe over the winter break!!

Conferences are coming up at the end of Jan. Please return your conference request as soon as possible so I can get you in the time slot you prefer. Sending home soon...

We are skipping over the majority of Topic 8 (division) and will begin Topic 9~Patterns.  Reading Skills will go over Main Idea, Details, and Sequencing. Spelling will focus on Syllable juncture in VCCCV and VV patterns.

 Ok, the weather is starting to get chilly!! Please make sure your child has warm clothes to wear outside. We go out for recess everyday unless there is a below 0 temp./windchill!! 

     I am going to try a new form of communication with my classroom families. It is called Seesaw. I have the class set up and ready to go. Watch for information to come home as to how you will sign up. This is a free phone app and you can access through your computer as well. I can send homework, reminders, celebrations, etc. to you via phone and/or computer!! I hope you will use this new platform as a way to stay current with school happenings. Plus it is safe and private for only my class to see!!!!

     This week in Math we will continue with Topic 7 ~ Division. The students are catching on to this strategy pretty well! Is it perfect yet? Not quite, but I am impressed with how quickly they are catching on!! Spelling is Syllable Juncture in VCV and VCCV Patterns. Social St. is covering Jamestown and Native Americans. Science is beginning a STEM project.

     I would still recommend sending in an extra set of clothes to keep in their locker, maybe after break? We will do another locker clean out sometime before winter break. Look for a smaller pile of things to come home :)

Second trimester is underway!! We had a pretty good first trimester, I hope we can continue with the growth again!! Spelling this week will focus on Syllable Juncture in VCV and VCCV Patterns. Math will begin Topic 7 Division. I may be be showing the students another way to divide called "The Forgiving Method". If you would like to see how it works, you can you tube "forgiving method" and watch the videos. We will work on this later in the unit!. 

We are going to Santa's Secret Shop on Dec. 3rd for shopping!!

With the cool weather, I would recommend sending in warm jackets, hats, and mittens. Please talk to your child about wearing these when going out for recess, a lot of students feel like they will be "ok" without jackets, hats, and mittens. Not so much!!! . We will do a locker clean out/check again before break. Look for a pile of things to come home in the next couple of weeks:)

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!!! This week ends our first tirmester of school. Report cards will be going home next week in the Wed. envelope.

Santa's Secret Shop...preview next week...Dec. 3rd, shopping Dec. 4th or 5th (possibly)!!!. I will take the class into the shop for a preview and then they can make a wish list of items they would like to buy for their family. If you need assistnace please let me or Mr. Sawatzke know and we can help with the cost. More to come in the Wed. envelope.

Spelling this week will focus on open and closed syllable patterns. Please be sure to practice these words each night at home as we only practice a couple times during the week for Word Study. Math will begin Topic 6, continue with multiplying. Reading skills will focus on making connections.

This week we will have a Spelling redo for Unit 9...no Reading Comprehension!!!!  We will finish Topic 5 in Math on Wednesday.

I wanted let you know how Thankful I am for these students and your support. These kids really do work hard and so well together! It is a lot of fun to see them continue to learn and grow from one another!! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family!!

Club's Choice will begin this week. This is a fundraiser for our school. Please only ask friends and family to order! This will need to be returned after Thanksgiving break. Keep reading your Battle of the Books books. This challenge will take place early February. I have a couple groups just about through all the books...great team work!! Make sure you go back and do some review to keep the stories fresh in your mind:) Math will continue with Topic 5. November already!!! I hope you were able to enjoy the long weekend!! This week in Spelling we will continue the rule of plural. Math will begin Topic 5~Multiplying. We will cover Main idea, sequence, comprehension, and important details in Reading Skills. There will not be any new strategies, just building upon the ones we have already learned. Daily 5 is building Accuracy, skills are: Cross checking, flip the sound, chunk letters, skip the word, sight words, and trade a word.

I hope the pets are doing well from Ms.Carlson!!!  Have a great week!

Planning ahead a little...I will send home any clothes in your child's locker this week. In return, you may want to send in some warm extra clothes. Better to be prepared than not! I hope the kids had fun at the Halloween Carnival on Saturday!! Please be safe if you go out Halloween night!!! Any extra candy can be donated to the school. We are collecting for our Troops overseas. Math will test Topic 4 and go into Topic 5~Multiplying 1 digit numbers. Just a heads up...No school Next Monday, teacher workshop day.
