Families,

Yes, we are to the end of another Trimester!!! Thank you for helping your child get their reading and math packs turned in!!! Try to help as little as possible so I can see where the gaps are. 

Please check with your child to see if they have snack. I have several students without each day and our supply is getting low. We are adding another lunch item....cheese pizza. This will be an everyday choice!!! So two hot lunch choices, yogurt pack, or cheese pizza.

This week for Word Study we will learn about Unaccented Final Syllables -er, -ar, -or. Math will continue with Time and Temp. Science is covering Planets and Social Studies is starting Government.

We are still collecting fishing items for the silent auction!!! Bring to school anytime :)

February continues to be our I Love to Read Month. This week we start STAR (Sit Together And Read). Please check your child's planner for special events happening in the classrooms and be sure to write down their reading times each day on their calendar!!! We are also collecting books for a Book Swap on Friday. This is different than the books for bingo. For every gently used book your child brings in, they swap for another book. If they bring in 3 picture books and 2 chapter books, they swap for 3 picture books and 2 chapter books that other students brought in. We are starting to collect items for the Arts and Academics night in March. Ms. Malwitz and Ms. Carlson are putting a Fishing basket together. You may donate items to be put into our basket. This will be used for a silent auction in March. Procedes will go towards purchasing new books for the book room.

Math for the week is beginning Topic 17~Time and Temperature. Word Study is Unaccented Final Syllables -le, el, il, al . Social Studies is finishing Small Businesses. Science is finishing Weather.

I Love To Read Activities

Here is a list of the activites we have planned:

* I Love to Read Kick-off: during Irish Pride Celebration 1:30

* I Love to Read will run from February 17th- March 2nd

*On the walls we will have student stars. Students need to put their name, teacher name and the name of their favorite book on them.  Teachers/Staff will have a star also - It will say "Leaders of Readers" on them with a picture of them reading. 

* We will have a competition. Everyone who wants, not mandatory, will be able to pick up a piece of art paper from Mrs. Kath. They need to draw/color/paint a picture, at home, of their favorite book (which they have to have read as questions may be asked). These pictures will need to be back to the Media Center by March 10th. We will have judges look at the drawings and 1 student will be picked from each classroom to paint that same picture on a ceiling tile to be put up on the library ceiling. 

* Dress up Days:  February 17 - "Read my Shirt Day" - wear t-shirts that have words on them and other students can read their shirts (nice words); February 24 - "Pajama Day"; March 2nd - Dress like a "Dr. Seuss Character"

* Book Swap will be held on the morning of Feb. 24th.

* Each grade has their own reading goals for reading minutes.  Students need to write the amount of reading minutes on the calendar and hand in on March 1st.  If students hand it in filled out, we will draw 1 name for a gift basket in the Intermediate wing and 1 gift basket for the primary wing

* We will have BINGO again this year with a "Who is the Star?" 

* Instead of D.E.A.R. time we will  have S.T.A.R. time (Sit together and read).

* March 2nd is our Finale - Global Half Play Day and...

Looks like some nice weather is coming our way!!! I hope this will help with all the sick students we have had these last couple of months. I have never seen anything like this before. Poor kids!!!!! Make sure they are getting a lot of rest when possible!

This week in Math we are begining Topic 15~ Metric Measurement and Topic 16~Perimeter and Volume. Spelling will follow the Unaccented syllable -le. Science will start Weather and Social Studies will begin Small Businesses.

Thank you for coming in and visiting with me concerning your childs education! I do appreciate it! The girls and boys are doing so well!!! Please keep it up so we can finish these last few months strong.

This week we are celebrating 100 days of school (only 73 left!!!) Can you believe it??? Spelling will follow the rule of Long e in accented syllables. Math will begin Topic 14 Customary Measurement. Social Studies is covering Economics and Science will continue with Rocks, Minerals , and Fossils for a few more days.

February is our I Love To Read Month. Look for activities and Family Night information to come!!

Snowcoming week in the HS. We are participating in a few of the dress up days!
