This week in Math we will finish Topic 4 with a test on Tuesday. Topic 5 will begin multiplication. The goal for 3rd grade is to know multiplication facts from 0-9. Continue to practice adding and subtracting as well. Spelling for the week will follow the rule of plural endings. Science is learning about light and objects. Social Studies is learning about Communities.
A heads up for next week...there is no school Monday, Nov. 9 for teacher workshop and Tuesday, Nov. 10 is LATE START

Pizza Hut Book It

Maple Lake Elementary is particpating in the Pizza Hut Book It Program again this year.

The only way to get better at reading is to do it. The Pizza Hut® BOOK IT!® Program motivates children to read more by rewarding them for their reading accomplishments. It can be used to enhance programs that teach children how to read, support comprehension and intervention programs, and encourage parents to spend more time reading with their children at home.

These certificates will be honored at the Monticello movie theater for 1 free movie ticket. Please be sure to use the certificate before it expires, which is 30 days from the date posted on the certificate.

I will hand these out in the classroom to those students that have their book log signed each night in reading and math.

 >Fall celebration
2:00-2:45

Families,
I am amazed how fast this year is going already!!! I'm not sure what to think about that!!! This week will be pretty quiet. Mat will continue with Topic 4 subtraction. Daily 5 is working on reread text. I am listening for a nice, smooth read!! Wednesday is our Wellness day, dress to exercise! Friday will be our classroom fall celebration. We will put costumes on around 2:05 and the celebration will begin as soon as every one is ready. Please make sure the costume is school friendly. Parents that would like to come in and participate can check in at the office...be sure to have the volunteer training if you have not done so yet. We will play a variety of games and have treats. I would like to start cleaning up by 2:45 so we have time to change and get backpacks ready. Have a safe Halloween weekend!! Bring in any extra candy please!!!

Any questions or concerns please let me know!!

IRISH SPIRIT
Book Fair Starts
Families,
It is Homecoming this week in the High School. We will participate in a few of their activities. Monday dress in red, white, and blue; Wednesday dress in your favorite logo (Vikings, Gophers, Irish, etc.); and Friday wear Irish Spirit. NWEA is all done. I will go over the test scores with you at conferences. This week starts our BOOK FAIR!! I will not send home an October book order this month. There are a lot of wonderful books to purchase at the book fair. My class will go on Wednesday to make their wish list. Oct. 12 will be our shopping day. The book fair will be open during conferences as well.  Next Tuesday, Oct. 13 is Late Start and National Hot Lunch Day. Our lunch schedule will change a little for that day. I will let you know when 3rd grade eats.
During our Daily 5 time, we have been working on Check for Understanding and Author's Purpose. In their book bag you will find a Parent Pipeline. This will give you some tips on how you can help at home as well. Math is finishing up Topic 2, Adding Whole Numbers. Be sure do work on math facts each day as well as read. There have been some change of destinations lately, please try and put a note in the planner so Ms. Malwitz doesn't go into panic mode and wonder if your child is home safely. I check the planner every morning when the kids get to the classroom, that way I will know what the plan is. Thank you for helping me with this!! Have a great week~ GO IRISH!!!
