#Spirit Day

Families,
It is Homecoming week in the High School. Elementary will participate in a few of the dress up days. They are listed on the calendar. Look for conference slips to go home this week in the Wed. envelope. If the date and time will not work, please let me know ASAP so I can try and make arrangements for you. We are going to begin our math timed tests. You will get a document showing the days and what will be tested. We are moving into multiplying right away!! If your student does not have their adding or subtracting math facts down, please work on those! Picture retakes will be in a couple weeks, Oct. 12. If you do not like what you have, return the package intact. I was gone last Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. Unfortunately both of the subs I had left messages that the class had a very hard time being respectful to them and other teachers. Please have a discussion with your child and remind them of the importance of being respectful to all people. I will be talking with the class about this as well. Very disappointing since we have been working on Irish Expectations all of Sept.!

Character Word of the Month...
KINDNESS
the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate

Families,
It looks like we are entering Fall! Please make sure your child has appropriate clothes for outside recess. You may want to send an extra set of clothes just in case they get wet outside or spill their lunch. Reading SKills has worked on Make Connections, and Visualization. This week we will focus on Organization. In math we took our first Topic test. This week we will begin Topic 2...Adding Whole Numbers, please practice adding math facts each night! The easier they are, the better off your child will be when multiplying begins. Last Friday we had guest speakers...Dairy Princess's...come in and share their knowledge about Dairy farms and careers. Ask your child about it!! Wellness Wed. this week. Wear comfy clothes to workout in! Our class has been working hard on the expectation of Being Respectful. So, if you see green slips coming home more often, this is because we are expecting good choices going forward. Thank you for your support with Irish Expectations and Irish Pride.  Have a great week!

Dear Families,
Week three is here already!! The time is flying by~at least for me anyway. Our first spelling test went very well!! Please be sure to practice these words each night. I only get a few days to work on these with my class. Great first test!! On Friday, we had our NWEA test for Reading and Monday is Math.  I will go over math and reading scores at fall conferences. Monday is our volunteer training. If you plan on going on any field trips or help in any of the classrooms, please make sure you have this training and are up to date. We have Wellness Wednesday coming next week. We wear comfy clothes to workout in after morning announcements. This will be on the last Wednesday of each month.
Reading skills was working on Making Connections...text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to-world. There is now a new strategy called text-to-media. Also, reading should be at least 30 minutes every night. Be sure to sign the reading log as well. Thank you!!
Math is reviewing place value, place, and ways to write a number. Make sure to practice math facts~ add and subtract. Real soon we are moving on to multiplying and by the end of the year dividing. This is expected right away in 4th grade. Have a great week!

NWEA test!
Picture Day
9:20

Dear Families,

We are off to a great start!!! The students are showing their Irish Expectations every day!! We will continue to work on these all throughout the year. We are going to start switching classes every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for Social Studies, Science, and Reading Skills. We will begin math this week as well. After the NWEA tests, we will look at the scores and during conferences I will go over test results and answer any questions you may have at that time. If you have questions now, please call me or send a note. I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have concerning anything here at MLE. I will always have a hard copy of my newsletter in your child's mailbox every Monday. The spelling list is printed on the back side as well. If you would like to receive my blog/newsletter by email, fill out the BLOG form and return it to school. I can sign you up using the email address you provided, or you can sign up on your own. Make sure you check your email for the feedburner confirmation email otherwise you are not completely signed up.

Welcome to a new school year and to my classroom!!!

Dear Families,
Welcome back to school!!! It was nice to meet ALL my new students during open house!!

This first week will be a lot of reviewing Irish Expectations and learning Ms. Malwitz's classroom routines.
I use Flexible seating in my classroom. I sent home a letter during Open House, I hope you had a chance to look it over. If you have any questions, please let me know. I will have a contract for the students to read over and sign if they choose to use Flexible seating. This will help the students to make a good choice when using this option. With19 students in our class, I feel like I have so much space in the classroom!!!
I will have a list of birthdays and when we will celebrate your child's/students special day in the Wed. envelope.
Next week the schedule will look more like our normal routine. We will switch for Science (Ms. Carlson) , Social Studies (Mrs. Kopff), and Reading Skills with Ms. Malwitz. We will also group our students into differentiated math groups. In a couple weeks, we take the NWEA test. If needed, we will make changes then. For now, it will be the level they were in at the end of last year.
If you have any questions be sure to call, email, or write me a letter/note in your child's/students planner!!  Please make sure I am aware of any after school change of destinations. I like notes in the planner, or written on paper so I can hang it by the door.

Thank you!
